Check out The People's Games, a new streetball concept that pits streetball players from two different cities in a game of basketball. The teams are not "crews." Organized groups of local streetball players who travel together and compete in different streetball competitions. For a player to participate, they must tryout to represent their city! In addition, unlike other streetball competitions or celebrity events, no professional athletes are allowed. Check out their website as well as this video form the New York coach, Earl Monroe ... can you say Black Jesus?

I have written about Team Flight Brothers in the past.  I view the Flight Brothers as part of the evolution in streetball and predicted that other Dunk Crews would emerge.  Recently AND1 begun recruiting prospective high flyers to form their own dunk crew.  I stumbled upon this clip today.  Apparently CBS is going to profile TFB on April 3.   Here is a preview.

"You saw a team of urban African-American males playing with a particular swagger, in your face. It was aggressive, it was hard-edged, it was extremely confrontational. … outlaws. Very much in the ethos is street ball." HBO's look at UNLV's Rebels comes at perfect time - The Morning Call.com My high school teammate was recruited by Jerry Tarkanian and UNLV.   One of my older brother's closest friends attended UNLV to play basketball.  Jerry Tarkanian embraced the preceived, "problem player."  For over a decade the NCAA insinuated there was wrong doing in Vegas.  Yet at the end of the day, Jerry Tarkanian was vendicated with a $2.5 million dollar out of court settlement with the NCAA.  This should be a good program.

The death of Troy "Escalade" Jackson was felt throughout the entire basketball scene, from The Rucker to the University of Louisville to the Staple Center on All-Star Sunday. Standing 6' 10" and north of 300 lbs., Escalade was a was a big man and had a big impact on moving Streetball into the mainstream. I never meet Troy. My impression of him from Mixtapes, online videos and ESPN Streetball was he was fun loving man who totally embraced his role as an international ambassador of streetball. Here are a few articles that better tell his story. R.I.P. Troy "Escalade" Jackson. New York Daily News New York Post Card Chronicle

Mike Purdie and Gary Smith are young streetball talents out of Phoenix, AZ. They roll with the streetball crew, Ball is Life Street. Both Purdie and Smith are phenomenal dunkers.  Not all jumpers are dunkers.  Today's dunkers are as agile as gymnist.  This is a video of their first time dunking on the Basketball-the-Remix basket with no backboard.  Believe me, if you give these guys a few months with a hoop with no backboard and they will come up with some creative dunks.  They were throwing alley ops off the wall by the end of their dunk-a-thon.
